Club History

The Prince William County Rugby Football Club was established in 2012 when the club founder recognized an unfortunate lack of organized rugby in the greater Prince William County region. To keep the team identity grounded in the surrounding area, we combined the names of Occoquan, Woodbridge, and Lake Ridge, and thus the PWCRFC Owls were born!

PWCRFC’s origin started with a few friends meeting on a baseball field to toss a ball around but over time word spread and the club gradually grew large enough to start sending players to support matches with other local Mid-Atlantic clubs, gaining fundamental skills and team cohesion along the way. By 2013, the club had collected enough enthusiastic new and veteran ruggers, ready to bring some fierce competition to Northern Virginia!

In 2018, the club evolved once more as PWCRFC merged with the Quantico Hooligans Rugby Football Club, establishing us as the premier team serving both the county and Marine Corps Base Quantico. The Owls now boast a significant population of active and former service members across multiple branches of the military, government employees and contractors, first responders, and civilian entrepreneurs. Our players come from all walks of life and bond together on the pitch throughout the Fall and Spring seasons. All members are welcome – from people with a vague but curious interest in rugby that have never played before to highly skilled veterans of the game and everyone in between! We welcome everyone that wants to give rugby a go! The club has a strong and growing membership base with a culture of having fun, camaraderie, charity, community, family, and playing some great rugby.

The PWCRFC Owls are typically found either at their home pitch provided generously by the American Legion – Post 28 off Joplin Road in Triangle or at their practice field at Butler Stadium on Quantico MCB. The Owls aspire to continue growing the club throughout the region in all facets of the exciting sport of rugby, aiming to create opportunities for all prospective ruggers both competitive and social to join in and grow the rugby family.
